Wine description “The 2018 Riesling Alte Reben Saar offers a clear, spicy and intense bouquet with smoky slate and subtle yeast aromas. Round and juicy on the palate, this is a complex, elegant, slightly bitter Riesling with enormous power and fullness. The wine has a positive astringency that is clear and phenolic and requires a little air when young. ”Drinking 2025-2040 (Robert Parker's - Wine Advocate, October 2020). Vineyard The grapes for this Riesling come from the various old vineyards of the Saar (60-80 years old), some of which have not been field-adjusted, with occasional real-root vines. Fine, but also stony, slate weathered soils can be found on the steep slopes and pass the minerality on to the grapes in an extremely concentrated manner. Vinification The grapes were picked at the end of October. 100% healthy grapes were gently ground and macerated for several hours on the aromatic and mineral-rich berry skins. Then the must was fermented slowly and cool spontaneously so that the multifaceted, fruity aromas of the wine could develop. A gentle aging in large wooden barrels with a long yeast storage followed after fermentation.
